A Residential Architecture Project in Charleston, SC
The homeowners wanted to capture the relaxed southern coastal feel of the area, so Dianne and her team designed a two-story home with a dormered attic space, symmetrical front elevation, and a large front porch lined with shuttered doors. The approach leads to a circular driveway landing connecting the detached garage and apartment suite, front entrance, and a gravel drive leading to the side of the home where the kitchen and scullery are located. Gray Hardiplank siding paired with white columns, gas lanterns, and brick accents provide an inviting and timeless first impression.
Inside the home, guests are greeted by a formal foyer with dark hardwood floors, rich blue wainscotting, and natural grasscloth wallpaper that embodies the elegant coastal feel of Charleston’s architecture. The entrance leads to a massive open concept great room and kitchen clad in stunning white paneling. The oversized living space accommodates two distinct sitting areas with back-to-back sofas, both defined by modern brushed brass chandeliers with white shades. A set of three french doors with clerestory windows open onto the spacious back porch and flood the space with natural light. The open-plan kitchen features a massive island with seating for four anchored by two large lantern pendants. White cabinetry is contrasted with black soapstone counters and matching backsplash, and gold hardware provides an elegant final touch. Off the kitchen, Dianne and her team included a walk-in pantry and scullery to meet the family’s entertaining needs. The open concept great room connects to a formal dining room with dusty pink paneled walls, a beautiful color selected by the client.
The main level also includes a media room, office, two secondary bedrooms with private baths for the couple’s sons, and a luxurious master suite with a private porch. The master bedroom offers plenty of natural light and is finished in a soothing green for a relaxing feel. The all-white master bath features dual sinks, marble counters, herringbone mosaic flooring, and a freestanding tub accented with a crystal chandelier.
Upstairs, a private guest suite and a casual playroom for the kids complete the main house while above the detached garage, a 569 square foot apartment offers a studio space, kitchenette, and additional guest quarters with custom built-in bunk beds.
