A Residential Architecture Project in Austin, TX
The Texas Avenue Residence involved a comprehensive remodel of the first floor and the addition of a second story to create a more functional layout with increased living space. The first floor remodel focused on transforming the heart of the home into an open, modern living space that is perfect for both day-to-day family living and entertaining guests. One of the major updates to the first floor was the creation of an open-concept living, dining, and kitchen area. This design opens up the interior, creating a light-filled, airy space where family members can easily flow from one room to the next.
To enhance the relationship between the indoor and outdoor spaces, our architects included greater access to the back porch. Folding glass doors open up from the living area to the porch, blurring the lines between the interior and the outdoor living space. While the living and dining areas have been opened up, some of the existing spaces in the original home were preserved. The original front bedroom and bath remain, maintaining the home's original character. These spaces continue to provide a cozy, private retreat for the homeowners.
The second-floor addition was integrated seamlessly into the existing roofline, ensuring that the new construction maintained the proportions and visual appeal of the original bungalow while keeping the home's modest, charming character and offering greater space.
This second-floor addition and first-floor remodel perfectly blend modern convenience with the classic charm of a bungalow-style home. With a spacious new layout, greater connectivity to the backyard, and updated finishes throughout, the home now offers improved functionality and comfort, without sacrificing the warmth and character that make it so special.
